When You Find Out You’re Going to Be A Dad
For men considering becoming a father, here’s the story of how I embarked on the incredible journey of dude to dad.
As a young Christian man growing up in today’s world, I am constantly in conversation with other guys my age who openly struggle with their identity, worth, and purpose.
On more than one occasion with friends, coworkers, and even strangers, I’ve heard things like:
“I thought I was meant for more.”
“I had so many dreams when I was younger, but now I feel like my adult life is so boring.”
“I’m wasting away my youth, surviving the week at my desk and living for the weekend.”
…and most commonly:
“I want to live out my life with a purpose, but I don’t know how.”

I’m Texas-born and raised, and after a brief stint in Waco for college, I made my way back to Dallas where I still live today with my wife and dog. I love my life, but I sure do have a lot to learn.
One of my biggest learnings since graduating? Being a man is hard. Being a Christian man is even harder.
After years of looking for approval and purpose in what I thought success should look like, I realized that true joy, purpose, and fulfillment as a man could only come from God and his will for my life.
I started this blog because as I looked around, I realized that so many men I knew were just like me – looking for fulfillment, approval, and truth in a world that always claims it can help us find the identity we crave, but that ultimately proves hollow and meaningless when we try and fit its mold.
I believe that it’s careful consideration of what matters most in life and devotion to a purpose higher than yourself that brings true meaning and fulfillment.
Ekteleo.com’s mission is to provide knowledge, resources, and community to help Christian young men find fulfillment in God’s design for their lives by increasing their knowledge of the Biblical principles that guide faith, finances, relationships, career success, and everything in-between.
Through this mission, Ekteleo.com hopes to inspire others to purposeful living and also learn new things ourselves along the way.

A lot has been said about the reasons why people shouldn’t get married young, but I’m here to explain why it might be one of the best things you ever do.
When I decided I was ready to propose to my then-girlfriend of three years, I was only 21. A few months later I popped the question, she said yes, and I walked down the aisle with her less than two months after walking the stage at my college graduation.
So why did I do it?
It’s easy to overcomplicate the topic of purpose when we live our lives with so much noise, but God’s will shows us how to be fulfilled in Him.
Like many other topics in the Bible, a healthy approach to our wealth and possessions involves consistent effort and obedience throughout our lives, with the constant understanding that no matter how much money we accumulate across our lives, not a cent of it truly belongs to us.
JOSEPH (the Bethlehem guy) is one of the most famous characters in the entire Bible. For good reason – he gets the high honor of being Jesus’ adopted father and is on the short list of people described as “righteous” in the Bible.
While the Bible never records a single word out of his mouth, Joseph had a lot to say about what it takes to be a good man, husband, and father.
… for which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, “This man began to build and was not able to finish.”
